Auto-Post vs. Reminder vs. Manual Posting
Understand the three ways Planoly can publish your content and when to use each one.
Overview
When you create a post in Planoly, you choose how it goes live. There are three options: Auto-Post, Reminder, and Manual. Here's what each one means and when to use it.
Auto-Post
Planoly publishes your post automatically at the exact time you scheduled.
Best for: Any time you want to set it and forget it. You don't need to be at your phone or computer.
Available on: Instagram (Feed, Reels), Facebook, TikTok, LinkedIn, Pinterest, YouTube, Threads, X
Requirements:
- Your social account must be connected with the right permissions
- For Instagram, your account must be a Business or Creator account connected via a Facebook Page
Tip: If Auto-Post fails, Planoly will notify you so you can post manually.
Reminder
Planoly sends you a push notification at your scheduled time reminding you to post. The post and caption are pre-loaded so you just tap to publish.
Best for: Platform types that don't support auto-posting, or when you prefer to have a final review before publishing.
How it works:
- Schedule your post with the Reminder option
- At the scheduled time, you'll get a notification on your phone
- Tap the notification to open the Planoly app
- Your post is pre-loaded — tap to publish directly to the platform
Requires the Planoly mobile app to receive push notifications.
Manual
No notification is sent. The post stays in your Planoly calendar as a visual placeholder, but you post it yourself whenever you're ready.
Best for: Content that doesn't have a strict posting time, or when you're using Planoly purely for visual planning.
Changing the Posting Method
You can change the posting method any time before the post goes out:
- Click the post on your calendar
- Update the posting method dropdown
- Click Save
