How to Create and Schedule a Post

Step-by-step guide to creating a post, writing your caption, and scheduling it to go out on any channel.

Overview

Creating a post in the Social Planner takes just a few steps. You can upload media, write your caption, choose how it posts, and schedule it — all from one place.

Step 1: Open the Post Creator

From the Calendar, click + Create Post at the top of the left panel.

You can also click directly on any date on the calendar to create a post pre-scheduled for that day.

Step 2: Upload Your Media

  • Drag and drop images or videos directly into the upload area
  • Or click Browse to select files from your computer
  • To create a carousel post, upload multiple images at once
  • To pull from your Media Library, click the library icon

Supported formats: JPG, PNG, MP4, MOV, and more depending on platform.

Step 3: Select Your Channels

At the top of the post creator, select which social channels you want to post to. You can post to multiple channels at once.

Each channel may have different requirements (image sizes, video lengths, caption limits) — the preview will update for each platform.

Step 4: Write Your Caption

In the post preview panel: 

  • Type your caption in the caption field
  • Use the emoji picker to add emojis
  • Type @ to tag users
  • Click # to add saved hashtag groups from Keywords & Captions
  • Use the AI Caption Writer for caption suggestions

Step 5: Choose Your Posting Method

  • Auto-Post - Planoly publishes automatically at your scheduled time
  • Reminder - You'll get a push notification to post manually at the scheduled time
  • Manual - No notification — you post on your own schedule

Step 6: Set Your Date and Time

  • Click the date/time field to open the scheduler
  • Select the date and time you want the post to go out
  • The planner shows your local time zone

Step 7: Schedule the Post

Click Schedule to add the post to your calendar. It will appear on the date you selected.

To save as a draft instead, click Save as Draft.

Editing or Deleting a Scheduled Post

  • Click any post on the calendar to open it
  • Make your changes and click Save
  • To delete, open the post and click Delete

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Can I post to multiple channels at once?

Yes. Select all the channels you want at the top of the post creator.

  • Can I edit a post after it's been published?

Published posts can't be edited through Planoly. You'd need to edit directly in the social platform.

  • What's the difference between a draft and a scheduled post?

Drafts have no scheduled time and won't post automatically. Scheduled posts have a date/time set and will post (or remind you) at that time.
