How to Use Placeholders for Multi-channel Workspace

Ever find yourself knowing when & what to post, but still figuring out the details? We totally get it – sometimes the big picture is clear, but the finer points need a little time to come together. Placeholders can help you plan and prioritize!

How to Use Placeholders

Log into your Planoly account and navigate to the Multi-channel Workspace and from the planning grid, you can create a Placeholder in 2 ways: From the New Post dropdown menu or directly from the Calendar

  1. Click on the New Post dropdown arrow, hover over a date and click the + button, OR click the Placeholder icon and select Create Placeholder

  3. The Placeholder prompt will appear where you can customize the following
    1. Choose a color or add the Hex code to match your brand
    2. Add a title
    3. Add an emoji
    4. Choose date and time
    5. Select if this is a repeating occurrence and choose the end date
    6. Add details or notes, even the exact caption you want to use
  4. Click Save to add it to the calendar or click Convert to Draft if you want to create the draft now

  5. If you decide to Save the Placeholder, it will appear on your Calendar

  6. From here you can click on the Placeholder to Edit and Save, Convert to Post, or Delete the Placeholder. Should you choose to Edit the Placeholder and click Save, it will prompt you to update for this one occurrence or all if it is a repeating placeholder
  7. To Convert to Post, you will be prompted that this action can not be undone
  8. Select the Social Channels and click Create Draft
  9. Your Draft will open and you will see the Placeholder information has been transferred over. You can now edit the caption if needed, add your media, make any additional changes like First Comment or Location, and click Save Draft or Schedule
  10. Once the post has been saved as a Draft or Scheduled post, it will appear on your Calendar as well as hover over it to see expanded details

Please Note:

  • Placeholders are only available on the web dashboard in the Multi-channel Workspace for new paid plans.
  • You can not utilize the Drag & Drop feature for Placeholders
  • If selecting a repeating placeholder, we suggest adding an end date
