How to Write and Format Your Caption
Learn how to write, format, and enhance your captions using emojis, hashtags, user tags, and the AI Caption Writer.
Overview
The caption panel in the post creator gives you everything you need to write great captions, add hashtags, tag people, and even get AI-generated suggestions.
Writing Your Caption
When you create or edit a post, the post preview panel appears on the right side. Click in the caption field and start typing.
The caption field supports:
- Plain text
- Line breaks (press Enter/Return)
- Emojis
- @mentions
- Hashtags
Adding Emojis
Click the emoji icon (smiley face) in the caption toolbar to open the emoji picker. Search for an emoji by name or browse by category.
You can also type emojis directly if your keyboard supports it.
Tagging Users
Type @ followed by a username to tag someone in your caption. This works for platforms that support caption tags.
For Instagram image tags (tagging people in the photo itself rather than the caption), use the Tag option in the post editor.
Using Saved Hashtag Groups
If you've saved hashtag groups in Keywords & Captions:
- Click the # icon in the caption toolbar
- Select a saved hashtag group to insert it into your caption
To create or manage hashtag groups, go to Keywords & Captions in the left sidebar.
Using the AI Caption Writer
- Click AI Caption Writer in the caption panel
- Describe what your post is about or choose a tone
- Planoly generates caption options for you
- Select the one you want, or edit it to make it your own
Adding a Creator Store Link
If you have a Creator Store set up, click Add Product Link in the caption panel to attach a product directly to your post.
