Planoly MCP: Setup Guide & Getting Started

Connect the Planoly MCP to Claude, ChatGPT, or Gemini so your AI assistant can read your calendar, build posts, and pull analytics.

What is it?

MCP, the Model Context Protocol, is a connector between your AI assistant and Planoly. Once it is connected, the assistant can list your workspaces and channels, browse your media library, read and edit your drafts and scheduled posts, schedule them, and pull Instagram analytics.

The MCP endpoint is https://mcp.planoly.com/mcp.

Requires a paid plan for Claude, ChatGPT, or Gemini.

Setting it up (takes about 90 seconds)

Claude (Cowork, web/desktop)

  1. Open Planoly's listing in Claude's connector directory at claude.ai/directory/planoly.
  2. Select Connect, then sign in with your Planoly account.
  3. Try asking: "Give me some ideas of what I can do with my Planoly connection."

One Claude connection covers Claude chat and Cowork.


ChatGPT

  1. Go to Settings > Plugins > Developer Mode and turn it on, then return to Plugins.
  2. Select Create. In the Connection section, choose Server URL, name the app Planoly, and paste https://mcp.planoly.com/mcp. Select Create.
  3. Sign in with your Planoly account when prompted.
  4. Try asking: "Give me some ideas of what I can do with my Planoly connection."

Claude Code

Run this in your terminal:

Then run /mcp, select planoly, choose Authenticate, sign in to Planoly, and select Allow.

Gemini CLI

Run this in your terminal: 

gemini mcp add planoly https://mcp.planoly.com/mcp --transport http

Start Gemini, run /mcp to check the status and authenticate, then sign in to Planoly and approve the connection.

How access works

You sign in with OAuth, so no password is shared with the assistant. The token is tied to your Planoly user, and it reaches every workspace you are a member of, not one in particular. Each request names the workspace it is acting on, and a workspace you do not belong to is refused.

Tools that create, change, or delete something are marked as destructive, which is the signal your AI client uses to ask you before running them. How that prompt looks is up to the client.

Some tools need a paid Planoly plan: the media library, analytics, shareable report links, TikTok trending sounds, and Instagram product tagging. On an unpaid plan those tools return a message asking you to upgrade. Drafting and scheduling posts do not need a paid plan.

What you can do

  • Draft and schedule across channels — Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, YouTube, Pinterest, LinkedIn, and Threads can auto-publish. X can be scheduled, but as reminders only.
  • Work in batches — turn a folder in your media library into a week of drafts in one message.
  • Bring in a design — media you already exported to Planoly, including Canva exports, is available by name from your media library.
  • Read your analytics — Instagram account and post performance in plain English, plus a read-only report link you can share. Analytics need a connected Instagram Business account, and a report link expires after 14 days.

Design to post:

"Find my Canva design called '[name]' and create an Instagram grid post with it for [channel]. Write a caption under 150 words with 3 hashtags. Save as a draft for my review."

Batch a week:

"Open the folder '[folder name]' in my Planoly library. Create an Instagram draft for each image with a short on-brand caption. Show me the list, then schedule them one per weekday at 9am starting next Monday."

Monthly report:

"Pull my Instagram analytics for the last 30 days, summarize performance, show my top 5 posts and what they have in common, and generate a shareable report link."

FAQ

Where do I use this?

In your AI chat window. The MCP does not add features inside Planoly. What Planoly does have is the setup dialog described above.

Does this replace Planoly's AI Caption Writer?

No. The AI Caption Writer in the post builder works exactly as it did. The MCP is separate, and you talk to it from outside Planoly.

Does it work with the mobile app?

The connection is to your Planoly account, not to one device. Anything the assistant creates or edits shows up everywhere you use Planoly.

Do I need to reconnect my social channels?

No. The MCP uses the channels already linked to your workspaces.
